January 25

After an awesome 10 hour sleep (!) we awoke to our amazing Airbnb hostess, Meredith, arriving at our door with warm, homemade cheese scones and coffee beans. Talk about gracious! She set the bar really high for our future Airbnb stays.

Fresh cheese scones compliments of our host, Meredith. There were four, but Mitch
ate one before I snapped a pic.

We then popped over to an adorable open air coffee spot at the marina called Ruby’s Espresso. Beat that view Starbucks. It was an incredible coffee with an even more amazing view.

Our next stop was a tour of Pic’s Peanut Butter factory. 70% of the peanuts they use are grown in Australia, with the remainder coming from Brazil. They recently began harvesting a crop of peanuts in NZ with the hope of producing Pic’s from peanuts grown in their home country. We picked up a few products for the road and some “slugs” for our hikes.

After Pic’s we drove to an incredible beach called Rabbit Island and enjoyed the scenery and sun for a few hours. I think it should be renamed “Chicken Island” because one wild chicken hopped into our car as I was getting beach towels out of the trunk. That noise you heard was me screaming.

We ended the day at The Boat Shed Cafe, a lovely restaurant on the waterfront. Thank you Nelson for an awesome day two in New Zealand!
