Littleton CO is 7,691 miles away from Lyttelton NZ. It’s a port town with 0 Starbucks and 1 amazing Lyttelton Coffee Company.
After our coffee stop on London Street, we meandered up the coast, stopping at quiet Cass Bay before heading on to Ohinetahi Gardens.
This hidden gem of a garden sits on 6 acres overlooking Governors Bay. We explored the forested walkways, sculpture garden and the swing bridge made for a max load of two people ;-).
We sat in the gazebo and on benches overlooking the bay. We played with Archie, the owner’s friendly five year old New Zealand Heading Dog (aka herding dog). The house and gardens were severely destroyed in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes; stones blew off the house, so sculptor Doug Neil created the Canyon Suite sculpture as an homage to the fallen stones.
A couple we met at the gardens from Seattle, WA tipped us off to Sign of the Kiwi, a delicious cafe at the top of Dyers Pass, run by Eric, a friendly Frenchman turned Kiwi.
We decided to take a drive to Diamond Harbor, a pretty coastal drive. There wasn’t much once we arrived, but we got out to take a few pictures and enjoy the scenery.
Another delicious meal ended the day at Twenty Seven Steps. We’re off to the beach tomorrow for what looks to be our warmest weather yet in Christchurch, low 80’s.
