Good news! No one knocked on our door last night, so we had an uninterrupted night sleep at Woolleys Bay. And there was no ticket on our window. 🙌

Woolleys Bay

This morning we walked through the bush from Matapouri to Whale Bay. It was an easy 2.5 mile round trip hike with stunning views of the coast.

The Pohutukawa trees at Whale Bay were the idyllic spot to linger under as we stood on the white sandy beach and gazed out at the clear blue sea. Since Whale Bay is only accessible by foot or boat, it was pretty empty and felt very secluded.

Continuing up the coast after our hike, we drove north to Helena Bay and stopped at The Gallery for a wander and a coffee at the adjacent cafe.

From there, we plotted out the rest of our day. Since there weren’t any freedom camping spots where we were headed, we decided to stay at the Whangateau Holiday Park, a pretty beachfront spot on Ohawini Bay.

It was a good opportunity to throw in a load of laundry, which was our evening activity, making sure we abided by all the sign-posted rules everywhere we went around the park.

Despite the guy walking around the park wearing an ankle monitor, we felt pretty safe. Just to be sure, we double checked that all the doors were locked before going to bed.

All locked up!

Another blog posted and another episode of Suits finished the night.
