April 25
We walked down to Taupo Bay Beach in the morning and from the beach, we spoke with Zachary and Jake, who are traveling through Europe together. They’re having a great time. We miss them!
It was a quiet day in NZ as the country celebrated Anzac Day, a national holiday in remembrance of the Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in war.
We drove to Kerikeri and wandered around the town. Many of the shops were closed due to the holiday, but it wasn’t a town with much personality. We managed to find a good place open for lunch at Redwoods Cafe on the outskirts of town.
Then we drove to the Rawene Holiday Park for our overnight stay.
Located on a hill overlooking Hokianga Harbor, we settled in and enjoyed the view. We played Rummikub to justify our schlepping it from home and watched the sunset.
