We started our day on a very winding road to Cable Bay<\/a> just outside Nelson. Eyes on the road, Mitch! No sooner had I laid my towel down on the rocks, the sandflies<\/a> started feasting on me. Welp that was the quickest beach day ever. Packed it all up and then walked up to a beautiful overlook and learned about the history of Cable Bay<\/a>. New Zealand\u2019s first overseas telegraph cable to Australia was laid there in 1876. Then, we did what we do best: eat! Great salad with hot Anatoki New Zealand smoked salmon at Cable Bay Cafe<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our second beach of the day, Tahunanui<\/a>, was thankfully bug free. We stayed for a few hours and then went for a NZ fresh fruit ice cream<\/a> where they blend hard vanilla ice cream with frozen fresh fruit and turn it into fruity soft serve. Delicious! Those of you who were at my birthday party a few years ago, you know, the one when I turned 35, may remember a similar ice cream experience by Happy Cones<\/a>, who made us these very same frozen treats. It\u2019s a special New Zealand ice cream machine made right here in Nelson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arden Bar+Kitchen<\/a> for dinner was my favorite so far. Grilled zucchini with zhoug, arugula salad and a delicious overnight slow roasted lamb shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
