Sandymount<\/a> hike was an incredible start to our day. What began as a chilly, cloudy morning turned into a beautiful, partly sunny day with magical clouds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We drove past hidden bays and dirt roads to find the trailhead. Along the drive we saw some new birds again and others we\u2019ve already seen. Lots of sheep dotted the hillside and mountain tops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hike itself was not difficult, only two miles, but it took us a few hours because we stopped quite a few times to take it all in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We began our walk through a tree tunnel, known as Macrocarpa trees, and ended up in a field of open farmland filled with tussock grass. We made our way to an overlook where we took lots of pictures of Hoopers Inlet<\/a>, Allans Beach<\/a> and the Peninsula. We met a friendly couple from Michigan and stopped to chat and trade tips once again. From there we continued on with our uphill hike over sand to the top of Sandymount where we descended through flax fields back to the car park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
