Today was a pretty chill day as we prepared for our first hike tomorrow, Queen Charlotte Track<\/a>. We will be hiking 42 miles over 4 days in the Marlborough Sounds<\/a>. We spent the morning packing and sorting our stuff, as we\u2019re only allowed to bring a certain amount of weight. Fortunately for this hike, our gear is transported for us each day, so we only need to hike with our daypacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We then strolled around the port, popped back in to the office to ask a few more questions about the hike (they must think we\u2019ve never hiked before!) and did one of my favorite pastimes every time we visit a new country: grocery shop! I love looking at all the different products that we don\u2019t have in the U.S. and it\u2019s fun to see our favorites from when we lived in London (lookin\u2019 at you, chocolate digestives!). We also visited the Picton Whaling Museum<\/a> and learned about the history of whaling and also some M\u0101ori history<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ended the day at Sisu<\/a>, a wonderful Finnish restaurant on the water. Sisu<\/a> means stoic determination, bravery and resilience – apt words as we embark on our first Great Walk in New Zealand<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
